The Republic of Panama is located in Central America, between Costa Rica and Colombia. Spanish is the official language. There is no regular military force, which was abolished on 10 February 1990. The economy rests primarily on a well-developed services sector that accounts for more than three-quarters of GDP.

Taxation
Panama has a taxation system based on the source of income, which is territorial. Incomes that are 100% offshore are not taxables. Therefore, citizens, residents and no residents are taxed on income earned from Panamanian sources. The taxes for non-residents on income from Panamanian sources, must be withheld by the payer.

Personal
Personal income tax in Panama is based on a sliding scale, ranging from a minimum of 7% after the first $9,000 to a maximum rate of 27%.

Inheritance Tax
Inheritance is not taxed in Panama. The inheritance taxes were abolished as of 26 December 2002.

Corporate
Corporate tax is a Flat Fix Tax Rate of 25% Distribution of dividends is 10% tax. For companies with gross $ 500,000 maximum income per year, the scale is progressive from 7.5 % after $11,000 to a maximum of 22.5% for the $500,000. As of 17 December 2020.

Value added Tax (VAT) applied to goods and services in Panama is a Flat fix rate of 7% (applies for personal and corporate)

Real Estate
In Real Estate transactions there are two taxes: the capital gain and the transfer of ownership which add to a total of 5% tax.

Property taxes
Primary Residence has a progressive taxation scale: $0 – $120,000 = Exempt; $120,001 – $700,000 = 0.5% tax; $700,000+ = 0.7% tax. Secondary Residence, Commercial Properties, Industrial properties: $0 – $30,000 = Exempt; $30,001 – $250,000 = 0.6% tax; $250,001 – $500,000 = 0.8% tax; $500,000+ = 1.0% tax
