Aliant is proud to announce that Peter Pang, Managing Partner at IPO Pang Shenjun Law Firm, a member of the Aliant+ global law network, delivered an insightful presentation at the prestigious 24th International Intellectual Property Law Association (IIPLA) USA Conference. The event took place at the iconic El Pardoo Hotel in Palo Alto, California, from October 1-2, bringing together intellectual property (IP) professionals and industry leaders from across the globe.
Mr. Pang served as a keynote speaker on the second day of the conference, presenting during Session 3 on Trademark Strategies for Technology Companies. His presentation focused on the evolving trademark landscape in China, a critical market for tech companies. Mr. Pang discussed high-profile cases, such as Tesla’s trademark victory, which underscored the significance of “well-known trademark” protections, and Apple’s landmark case highlighting regional trademark complexities in China. He also explored how tech companies can safeguard their intellectual property amid increasing enforcement capabilities in China.
In his presentation, Mr. Pang outlined four key trademark strategies for tech companies entering the Chinese market:
- Offensive Strategy – Register trademarks early to avoid complications.
- Defensive Strategy – Prevent competitors from “free-riding” by registering similar trademarks and keeping them for future use.
- Design and Branding – Invest in creating a unique logo to build brand recognition.
- Enforcement Strategy – Leverage China’s enhanced enforcement capabilities to impose penalties on trademark infringers.
In addition to his keynote address, Mr. Pang participated in a roundtable discussion alongside other leading experts, facilitating an engaging dialogue on practical IP challenges and strategies in the tech sector.
